Contest: Arctic biodiversity
Note: This male polar bear was walking on thin stretches of ice in an otherwise open fjord in Svalbard. We were sailing in literally uncharted territory... No one else had ventured into this fjord. There were no sea maps, so our captain had to guess whether or not we'd run aground. While we did almost get stuck in ice while trying to cut through it, we were able to eventually park in a thicker piece (thanks to rough waters) so we'd be able to photograph the bear in a more stationary position.
